ABOUT CMS
First, thank you for stopping by and taking the time to look at CMS.
What differentiates me from the other competent, talented instructors out there? Why take a class from me? Good questions.
I bring experience from both the academic and practical application worlds to my classes. My grad school coursework focused on communicating about Use of Force issues. My articles have also appeared in various print magazines and several online sources.
While CMS is only a few years old, I have taught the defensive use of firearms and tactics in the private sector – for Gunsite, Aimpoint, and others – to vetted citizens, peace officers, and service members since 2001.
CMS has three goals:
Develop - This is not only for the individual student, regardless of their job, but also for agencies. My classes can be tailored towards either application or how to teach that material within an organization.
Evaluate - Throughout my career, as an instructor and supervisor, I spent time evaluating training, equipment, events, and even policies. Examples include unintentional discharges of a firearm and the equipment involved, tactical training proposals, course design and presentation by other instructors, agency policies, and other high-risk incidents.
Educate - Far too often, people without the experience and perspective of trained patrol officers attempt to evaluate, judge, and opine on events. Unfortunately, they do not have sufficient knowledge of the training given, the law, and human factors. I have the background, education, and experience to provide that training.
During graduate school, I researched and authored two capstone projects. One addressed training agency administrators to evaluate and explain the use of force. The other covered how to communicate the legitimacy and infrequency of police use of force.
In retirement, Gunsite gave me two projects - develop their red dot (pistol mounted optics) program and re-write the student handbook for the pistol classes. I taught the first pistol-mounted optics class in the summer of 2020. The school published the in-depth update of the handbook in 2021.
My complete CV, resume, and other relevant documents are available upon request to fulfill administrative or contractual requirements.
Respectfully,
